I had a gaming fail. You know how I sorta remember that Halloween is coming up a week before, and scramble to play a spooky game in time? That sort of happened again. I didn't know that this game took place on Christmas Eve until I started playing it. The problem? I started playing it the day after Christmas.
Don't Preorder Games
Hi! You probably just read a message telling you to not preorder games. The following is an incomplete list of games that were terrible on release, and many who preordered them regretted it. You might have been one of them. Thanks to patch culture, some of these might be OK now, but you should not count on that for future releases. You already gave The Man your money, so why should he care? To him, you're just another sale in the quarter. So in the interest of learning from the past, let me remind you in chronological order:
The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings
Any astute readers of mine (currently about zero) will know that I have played The Witcher 2 in the past. They will also know that I haven't posted in a month. Oops. Life happens.
Strong Bad's Cool Game for Attractive People
After spending hundreds of hours on open world RPGs, then their addons, and enjoying them, I wanted to play something very different: something light-hearted (and maybe a little shorter). You know, how games are supposed to be. I sorted through the hundreds of games that I have, mostly acquired through Humble Bundle, and quickly decided the next game(s) to play.
Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty
Phantom Liberty is the only DLC for Cyberpunk 2077, so I'll skip a lot of things that article covers. Phantom Liberty takes place in Dogtown, a section of Night City that's next to Pacifica. Like Pacifica, it was meant to be the rich part of town, but something went wrong, and it became a half-built slum. It's home to a gang named Barghest, named after mythical hell dogs, so they named their territory Dogtown. (To me, this is a Witcher reference.)
Hidden Writing
Last month, I got Thing Explainer. It's a book that explains big things using the ten hundred words that people use the most. I wanted to do something just like that, but for hidden writing. After I started writing this, I felt like I was talking to a little kid, only to find out that I was the kid, and I was having fun.
Broken Age: Act 1
Broken Age is the game that, for the longest time, was known as the Double Fine Adventure. Unfortunately the man behind all of this, Tim Schafer, cannot get publisher funding for a game to save his life. It was Kickstarted a long time ago, and it did well. So well that it made crowdfunding a viable method of fundraising for... pretty much everything.
